Color Me Back: A New Approach to Same Day Pay

Mural Arts Philadelphia leader Nadia Malik will present on using participatory public art to advance individual and community health outcomes. Using Color Me Back, our new same day pay program as a case study, Nadia will offer insight into building cross-sector partnerships, positioning art as a form of work, setting low barriers and high expectations for participants, focusing on each individual’s humanity, and integrating work opportunities with social supports.

The Porch Light program began in 2008 as a partnership between Mural Arts and the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbility Services. A longitudinal study led by Yale University School of Medicine produced evidence of myriad impacts, including increased collective efficacy, improved feelings of safety, and decreased stigma against people struggling with behavioral health challenges.
