Mental Shortcuts: Cognitive Bias and Design Workshop

This event requires pre-registration to reserve your spot. Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to check in. If you have not arrived 10 minutes prior to the start of the event, you may lose your place and will put on the wait list. If you did not pre-register, there’s a possibility for admittance if seats are available.

Our minds route us through mental shortcuts hundreds of times each day. We call these cognitive biases. Usually they’re harmless. Even helpful. But what happens when a shortcut becomes a detour directly to a bad decision? Using real-world examples to identify some particularly nasty biases, participants will learn how design strategies can help redirect or eliminate the impact of negative cognitive biases. Work through tricky design ethics scenarios and explore methods to recognize our own blind spots, and how to ask the right questions to avoid bad outcomes.
