Mental Shortcuts: Cognitive Bias and Design Workshop

Our minds route us through mental shortcuts hundreds of times each day. We call these cognitive biases. Usually they’re harmless. Even helpful. But what happens when a shortcut becomes a detour directly to a bad decision? Using real-world examples to identify some particularly nasty biases, participants will learn how design strategies can help redirect or eliminate the impact of negative cognitive biases. Work through tricky design ethics scenarios and explore methods to recognize our own blind spots, and how to ask the right questions to avoid bad outcomes.
