Understanding Food Insecurity in Philadelphia: School & Community Partnerships Grounded in Project Based Learning

At William Penn Charter School, 6th grade students conduct an immersive semester-long study on Philadelphia food insecurity. The project-based service-learning curriculum utilizes math, health, science, and social studies to analyze hunger statistics, research essential nutrients, explore food deserts, and investigate hunger in populations around the world. Students also regularly spend time at local organizations working to address the need for consistent access to nutritious food. Hear from educators and community partners who are working together to think creatively about classroom experiences that provide sustainable impact.
