Getting to the CORE of the Problem: Transforming Care for Opioid Abuse

Among major cities in the U.S., Philadelphia ranks highest in overdose deaths. At Penn Medicine’s emergency departments (ED), patients are treated for overdose, withdrawal, or other complications of opioid use every hour of every day, but face significant barriers to continue and sustain treatment after discharge.  Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation, in partnership with Penn Behavioral Health, developed C.O.R.E., The Center for Opiod Recovery and Engagement, to link patients to the best treatment options once they leave the ED. Learn how this innovative model of engagement is saving lives.
