Located in the heart of the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design’s URBN Center, the Immersive Research Lab (or IRL) is a space dedicated to the study and research of immersive media including VR, AR and other technologies. The lab is a dynamic space specifically designed to encourage collaboration across university based disciplines and departments, as well as with industry and the surrounding community.
Designed specifically for Immersive Media, the IRL’s floor space is almost completely open, with trussing supporting motion capture systems and an ambisonic audio system. In addition to traditional computer systems, the lab also features specialized backpack computer systems that can be worn by users as they interact within virtual spaces.
This event will highlight and demonstrate the various tools and technologies in use by students and faculty at the lab, showing a variety of ways that immersive media is spreading into mainstream use by consumers and industry in our region.
