Ashley Masterson currently serves as the Director of Medical Cost Analytics at Independence Blue Cross, a role focused on the exploration of trends in population health, intervention efficacy and medical cost containment. Today, Ashley’s primary goal is to approach traditional healthcare problems with innovative solutions. She has a passion for adapting theories and concepts from her academic training in marketing theory and cognitive psychology for application in the healthcare space.
Originally from Dearborn, Michigan, Ashley studied Communications and Broadcast Journalism at Michigan State University as well as Marketing and Advertising at Wayne State University. With dreams of branching out from her midwestern roots, Ashley moved to Philadelphia to pursue her Ph.D. in Marketing at Temple University. Here she focused her research on aging and cognition, compensatory learning strategies and the development of expertise in elderly consumers. After serving as an adjunct professor teaching courses in Marketing Communications, Research and Consumer Behavior, Ashley joined the IBC team in a predictive modeling and business analytics role supporting IBC’s marketing efforts. As her interest in the healthcare industry grew, Ashley began to explore topics in population health and medical cost containment. She moved into a role overseeing the Medical Cost Reporting and Analytics team in 2016.
